Small Team, Big Impact: The Tecplot Support Experience

When you’re working with complex CFD or multi-physics datasets, post-processing is not just a “nice-to-have.” It is mission-critical. And when something doesn’t behave as expected, you do not want to file a ticket into the void or message an AI chatbot and hope for the best.

That is where Tecplot stands apart.

Support That Knows Your Name (and Your Data)

One of Tecplot’s most underrated advantages is not a feature; it’s our people.

Our support team is intentionally small by design. When you reach out, you are not routed through layers of abstraction or handed off between departments. You are talking to the same engineers again and again. These are people who learn your workflows, your challenges, and sometimes even your preferred solver settings.

In other words, your support is personalized because it actually is personal.

Customer surveys are solicited after each support incident is closed. Based on survey responses, our customer satisfaction rating is excellent!

And unlike many open-source or community-supported tools, where answers can be scattered across forums or buried in an old thread, Tecplot support is direct, responsive, and hands-on. You get real help from our Tecplot experts, quickly.

Engineers Helping Engineers

Tecplot’s support philosophy is simple. Solve the problem, not just the ticket so that the customer can accomplish their goal.

That means:

  • Helping you debug data import issues, not just pointing to documentation
  • Working through visualization challenges step by step
  • Providing scripts, macros, or workflow suggestions tailored to your case
  • Staying engaged until you get a usable result

Our team does not just answer questions, they also collaborate with you to move your work forward.

A Quick Customer Support Story

A senior scientist at a US-based semiconductor equipment manufacturer had a straightforward goal: export data from Tecplot 360 into a CSV file. The catch? He was working with a large number of zones and needed to export only the ones matching a specific pattern, without hand-selecting each one individually.

It wasn’t something the Tecplot 360 GUI handles natively. So, our team built him a solution.

Using the PyTecplot API, we put together a script that pulls all zone names and runs them through a regular expression filter. Define your pattern, something like “.*WALL.*” to catch any zone containing “WALL,” and the script automatically identifies and exports only the matching zones. No manual selection. No tedious clicking. Just the data he needed, fast.

His response said it all: “Yes, this works well. No crash and export proceeds quite quickly. This is awesome. Thank you!”

That is exactly what we are here for.

That kind of hands-on problem solving happens every day at Tecplot, and we think it is worth sharing. With that in mind, we are excited to introduce our new support newsletter, Streamlines. This new Tecplot newsletter will highlight real customer support cases and insider tips and tricks from our experts. To receive this newsletter, subscribe to Tecplot Newsletters. You will receive Streamlines along with our regular newsletter, bringing more real-world solutions directly to your inbox.
